Description
SS-31 (elamipretide) is a mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide designed to concentrate at the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it binds cardiolipin – a phospholipid essential to the machinery that produces cellular energy. It belongs to the Szeto-Schiller peptide class studied for mitochondrial function.
Mechanistic research describes SS-31 as stabilizing cardiolipin to preserve electron-transport efficiency and ATP synthesis while reducing the leakage of reactive oxygen species, with reported anti-inflammatory activity, examined in preclinical models of mitochondrial dysfunction, ischemia and oxidative stress. Genefyx supplies it as a research reference compound, mass-spec verified with a certificate of analysis, and it is not intended for human or animal use.
How it works
Cardiolipin binding preserves electron-transport efficiency; reduces ROS; SIRT1 upregulation; suppresses inflammatory signaling.
Research context
Mitochondrial myopathy, heart failure/ischemia, diabetes/oxidative stress, and neurodegeneration research.
Handling
Lyophilized powder. Certificate of analysis, ≥99% purity.
