Description
Melanotan-1 (afamelanotide) is a synthetic 13-amino-acid analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) that acts mainly on the MC1R melanocortin receptor. That receptor governs the melanocyte pathway responsible for producing eumelanin, the pigment associated with UV photoprotection and DNA-repair support in skin.
Mechanistic research describes Melanotan-1 as activating MC1R (a Gs/cAMP pathway) to stimulate melanin-synthesis machinery and support repair of UV-induced DNA lesions, with additional anti-inflammatory alpha-MSH activity, examined in photoprotection and inflammation models. Genefyx supplies it as a research reference compound, mass-spec verified with a certificate of analysis, and it is not intended for human or animal use.
How it works
MC1R (Gs) → cAMP → MITF/eumelanin synthesis; supports nucleotide-excision repair of UV lesions; anti-inflammatory α-MSH activity.
Research context
Sun-tolerance, UV/tanning, and anti-fibrotic/inflammation research.
Handling
Lyophilized powder. Certificate of analysis, ≥99% purity.
